Subhadip Chowdhury is an Assistant Instructional Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Chicago. He completed his PhD in Mathematics at the University of Chicago under the supervision of Professor Danny Calegari, following undergraduate studies at the Indian Statistical Institute.
His research focuses on low-dimensional topological dynamics, particularly nonabelian group actions on the circle and the application of topological methods to problems in combinatorial group theory and formal languages. Current research interests include geometric group theory, complex dynamics, and big mapping class groups.
Dr. Chowdhury has developed pedagogical approaches centered on creating discovery-based and inclusive learning environments. He serves as Pedagogy Fellow at the Chicago Center for Teaching and Learning, where he leads initiatives on alternative grading practices and assessment redesign in mathematics education.
