Subhadeep Chowdhury

Subhadeep Chowdhury is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the Department of History, University of Oslo, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities. His research focuses on the role of 19th-century European colonial empires in shaping international treaties and institutions related to intellectual property rights (IPR), particularly concerning Indian textiles. He explores how IPRs gained legitimacy or became contested in Europe and its colonies, with a focus on South Asia's creative labor and inventive activity.
