Subal Das Gupta is the William C. Macdonald Professor of Physics at McGill University. He earned his Ph.D. from McMaster University in 1963. His primary research interest is heavy ion collision theory in the energy range of 30 MeV/nucleon to several GeV/nucleon. Professor Das Gupta investigates fundamental questions in nuclear physics including the extraction of information about the nuclear equation of state, evidence for liquid-gas phase transitions in nuclear matter at lower beam energies, and development of theoretical frameworks to describe intermediate energy heavy ion collisions.
McGill University has been a significant contributor to advancements in understanding nuclear matter under extreme conditions through Professor Das Gupta's theoretical work. His research helps interpret experimental results from major nuclear physics facilities worldwide and contributes to our understanding of nuclear interactions and matter organization.
