Su Zhen is a Professor at the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) in Beijing, where she also serves as a supervisor for orchestral training and research. She is an instructor at the China Conservatory of Music and a consultant for the Asian Youth Orchestra and the Syndicate of Beijing Musicians’ Association. She has been a representative of the Tenth Chinese National Women’s Congress.
Education: Graduated from CCOM’s orchestral music department under Professor Wang Zhenshan. Earned a postgraduate degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Professor John White, winning major viola awards and the 1997 Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition prize.
Research focuses on viola performance, orchestral techniques, and music pedagogy. Awards include the 2006 Huo Yingdong Outstanding Youth Teacher Award. She has performed globally as a soloist and chamber musician, appearing at festivals in Edinburgh, Geneva, Tokyo, and the UK’s International Viola Arts Festival.
Professional roles include Assistant Principal Viola of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra (2000–2004) and jury memberships at the Lionel Tertis Competition (2010) and Beijing International Music Competition (2011). Internationally recognized for masterclasses at the Great Mountains Festival (Korea), Great Wall Festival, and Austria Academy of Music.
