His expertise spans geoscience applications of Earth Observation (since 1991 at the British Geological Survey), 3D modeling, geological hazard mitigation, and environmental monitoring. He leads interdisciplinary projects funded by NERC, ESA, and EC Framework Programmes, focusing on peatland health, landslide hazards, urban heat islands, and social media for emergency response. He has advised over 15 PhD students across institutions globally and sits on the GEO Programme Board representing the UK.
Research Highlights:
- Developed EO applications for coalfield subsidence monitoring and peatland health via radar interferometry
- Leads projects on citizen science, modern slavery mapping, and volunteered geographic information
- Supervised 7 current PhD students and graduated 7 others
- Over 100 publications in journals like Remote Sensing, Geomorphology, and Environmental & Engineering Geoscience
