Stuart King is a Senior Lecturer in Architectural Design and History at the Melbourne School of Design, University of Melbourne. He holds a doctorate in architectural history from the University of Melbourne (2010) and has extensive professional experience, including architectural practice in Melbourne (post-1996 graduation) and registration as an architect in 2002. From 2007 to 2017, he lectured in architectural history, theory, and design at the University of Tasmania.
His research focuses on Australian architectural history, historiography, and heritage, with an emphasis on local, regional, and global influences on 19th-century built environments. He currently serves on the Tasmanian Heritage Council (since 2012) as Chair of its Registration Committee. Previously, he held leadership roles in the Society of Architectural Historians Australia and New Zealand (SAHANZ), including Editorial Board membership (2018–2023), past presidency (2011–2013), and co-editorship of *Fabrications: JSAHANZ* (2014–2017).
