Dr. Stuart Favilla is a Senior Lecturer in Interaction Design at Swinburne University of Technology's School of Design and Architecture. He leads applied research initiatives in inclusive design, spatial audio, and multisensory communication. As former Director of the Interaction Design Lab (2015–2023), he developed augmented reality tools for dementia care and multisensory science exhibitions for blind audiences. His work bridges art and technology, receiving international acclaim including the Karl Szuka Prize for Radio Art and a Silver Medal at the International Design Awards.
Education: PhD in beam-forming technologies for extreme environments at Swinburne University of Technology. Research interests include spatial audio in hostile environments, accessible STEM communication, and assistive technologies.
Teaching: Supervised over 50 Master's theses since 2022, championing research-led design. Awards include Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Teaching and Engagement.
Grants: Funded projects include defense audio systems (Falcon Pty Ltd), dementia app development (Dementia Australia), and urban storytelling (Swinburne).
