Stuart Davis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, City University of New York (CUNY). His research critically examines digital communication, media activism, and political discourse, with a focus on Latin American contexts. Davis holds a Ph.D. in Media Studies from UT Austin and a B.A. in Cultural Studies/Political Science from UNC Chapel Hill.
Research Focus
Davis investigates the intersection of media, power, and social justice, emphasizing:
- Digital Activism: Grassroots media in favelas and border regions
- Political Communication: Populism, right-wing movements, and health disinformation
- Media Imperialism: Global platforms like Netflix and infrastructural power dynamics
- Cross-cultural Health Communication: Language barriers during crises like COVID-19
Teaching & Advising
He teaches core courses including Intro to Digital Communication & Culture and Platforms, Power, and Publics, while regularly supervising master's theses and independent studies in communication theory and research methods.
