Stian Ingemann-Molden serves as a PhD Fellow and Researcher at Aalborg University's Faculty of Medicine, affiliated with the Department of Health Science and Technology and Department of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy at Aalborg University Hospital. He leads the Pain and Motor System Plasticity Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain, focusing on translational pain research and clinical rehabilitation.
His research spans basic pain neuroscience (neurophysiological mechanisms in chronic pain post-stroke and CRPS) and clinical rehabilitation (pulmonary embolism recovery, cardiac surgery rehabilitation). Key methodologies include transcranial magnetic stimulation coupled with EEG, virtual reality exposure therapy, and systematic review synthesis. His work emphasizes patient-centered outcomes in elderly cardiac rehabilitation and musculoskeletal pain management.
Current projects include the RECARD-trial (remote cardiac rehab for elderly), neural connectivity assessment in chronic pain, and venous thromboembolism state-of-the-art reviews. His publications reveal strong trends in neurophysiological pain biomarkers, digital rehabilitation tools, and evidence-based self-management protocols for musculoskeletal conditions.
As a clinical supervisor and lecturer in the MSc Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy program, he teaches differential diagnosis, return-to-play protocols, and pain neuroscience. His work integrates with the Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain, leveraging interdisciplinary collaborations across neurology, cardiology, and physiotherapy departments.
