Dr. Vensel's professional background bridges academic counseling with clinical practice. His research focuses on clergy mental health, specifically examining forced terminations through abusive workplace behaviors and their impact on clergy burnout, spiritual well-being, and decisions to leave ministry. His work uniquely integrates biblical principles with professional counseling practices, reflecting his background in youth ministry with Miami Youth for Christ before becoming a licensed clinical social worker.
As a Florida state-qualified supervisor across all three graduate counseling disciplines (marriage & family therapy, mental health counseling, and clinical social work), he has directed both clinical settings including the Children's Psychiatric Center and large Christian counseling practices. For six years, he oversaw residential group homes for middle school children and directed an outpatient family counseling center at a major family ministry organization.
Dr. Vensel has dedicated significant effort to the development and clinical training of Christian counselors, while also providing extensive ministry to clergy throughout his career. His professional journey demonstrates a consistent integration of faith-based perspectives with evidence-based counseling practices.
