Steven Sutherland is an Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, affiliated with the College of Human Sciences and Humanities. He serves as Program Director for the undergraduate and graduate Serious Games and Simulations programs. His work spans human-computer interaction, judgment and decision-making, and serious games.

- Postdoctoral Training in Game Design, Northeastern University
His research focuses on human-automation interaction, trust in AI, and serious games. He explores how users comply with automated systems and designs game-based platforms for research and education. Recent work includes projects like StudyCrafter, an AI-supported platform for learners to conduct human-subjects research.
Dr. Sutherland has published in top conferences such as ACM CHI, ACM IUI, and AAAI AIIDE, with themes in automation compliance, game mechanics, and digital learning tools. He received the Best Paper in Innovative Education Award at the 2015 Northeast Decision Sciences Institute Conference.
