Steven Runo

Steven Runo is an Associate Professor of Molecular Biology at Kenyatta University, affiliated with the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology. He holds a PhD (2008) and MSc (2003) from Kenyatta University, with his PhD research conducted in collaboration with the University of California, Davis, and a BSc (1998) from the same institution.

• Research focuses on parasitic plant biology, particularly Striga resistance in cereals
• Developed high-throughput maize transformation systems using transgenic hairy roots
• Current work integrates genomics, bioinformatics, and RNA sequencing for Striga resistance
• Utilizes genome-editing tools for functional genomics in Striga-sorghum interactions
