Steven R Probst is Professor and Head of Public Services at the University of Arkansas School of Law’s Young Law Library, where he also serves as Interim Director. Since joining the university in 2019, he has overseen collection development, reference, interlibrary loan, and circulation services. Previously he spent 14 years on the faculty of Valparaiso University School of Law, teaching legal research and managing library operations.

Research & Teaching Focus
Professor Probst’s scholarship centers on the intersection of legal information science and legal culture. His work explores how courts cite non-traditional authorities, the reliability of digital sources in judicial opinions, and the historical evolution of legal bibliography. In the classroom he emphasizes practical legal research skills, assessment design, and collaborative pedagogical strategies.
Scholarly Output
Across more than two decades he has produced a steady stream of peer-reviewed articles and bibliographic studies. Recurrent themes include judicial citation practices, the pedagogical challenges of teaching legal research, and the preservation and analysis of faculty scholarship. His most recent works examine cultural references in court opinions and the fragility of online legal authority.
