Steven Postrel

Steven Postrel is a Continuing Lecturer in the Strategy area at the Paul Merage School of Business, University of California, Irvine. He has previously taught at UCLA, Northwestern University’s Kellogg School, Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business, and UC Irvine, delivering courses to undergraduate, full-time, part-time, and executive MBA students.

His research focuses on strategic management, with an emphasis on knowledge specialization and integration, organizational impulse control, game theory in business strategy, retail pricing, and technology standards competition. He also maintains strong interests in positioning analysis, theories of competitive advantage, and product design and development. His scholarly work has been published in top journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Industrial and Corporate Change, Marketing Science, and the Journal of Industrial Economics.

His recent publications reflect a consistent focus on strategic decision-making, organizational design, and competitive dynamics. Themes across his work include the interplay between knowledge structure and firm performance, the strategic use of game-theoretic models, and the economic logic behind technology standards and market positioning. His research often bridges economics, organizational theory, and business strategy.

Steven Postrel is an active member of the academic community, serving as a reviewer for several journals and a frequent presenter and discussant at strategy conferences.
