Steven Kelly

Steven Kelly is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Health and Life Sciences. He serves as an External Examiner at Glasgow Caledonian University since February 2019. His research focuses on environmental microbiology, including microbial remediation of xenobiotic-contaminated land, bioleaching of Critical Raw Materials from Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), and controlling microbial growth in healthcare settings. He has supervised projects on infection control efficacy, metal recovery from electronic waste, and nitrogen recycling in urban soils.

Dr. Kelly’s research interests also extend to mycology and bacteriology, with a focus on sustainable solutions for environmental challenges. He collaborates with organizations like Touchless Innovation Ltd and NHS on projects related to infection control and environmental remediation. Recent activities include consultancy for Advanced Higher Biology workshops and public engagement events on electronic waste recycling.

His publications span topics from microbial reservoirs in clinical environments to hybrid leaching techniques for tantalum recovery. He actively engages in interdisciplinary collaborations, reflecting his commitment to addressing global challenges in environmental sustainability and public health.
