Steven Graham Adie is an Associate Professor at the Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering, Cornell University. He holds affiliations with the departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. His laboratory focuses on optical coherence tomography (OCT)-based imaging technologies for both basic science and clinical applications. Dr. Adie earned his B.S. (1997) and Ph.D. (2007) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from The University of Western Australia. After postdoctoral research at the Beckman Institute, University of Illinois, he joined Cornell in 2013.
His research integrates computational approaches to enhance OCT resolution, develop optical coherence elastography (OCE), and explore cellular-resolution volumetric imaging. Applications span tissue mechanics in carcinogenesis (basic science) and clinical translation for image-guided surgery. The Adie Lab’s work bridges biomedical engineering, optics, and computational modeling.
Adie has received prestigious awards including the NSF CAREER Award (2017) and the NIBIB Trailblazer Award. His lab collaborates across disciplines at Cornell and beyond. Notable achievements include portable OCT system development and studies on optical force microscopy.
He advises students in biomedical engineering and has contributed to innovations in LASIK laser systems during his industry tenure. The Adie Lab’s research is funded through grants like the NSF and NIH, emphasizing translational biomedical engineering.
