Steven Dahl is a Senior Lecturer in Subject-Related Humanities/Co-curricular Didactics at Stockholm University, working in the Department of Subject Didactics. He teaches courses in subject didactics, theory and method, and supervises independent work for teacher education students.
His research focuses on history didactics, with particular interest in:
- How moving images function as resources for students' learning in history
- The relationship between history as a science and learning
- Teaching and learning about the history of Sweden
- Integration of subject discipline and subject didactics in teacher education
- AI in schools
Dr. Dahl's research explores how students make meaning from historical content, particularly through film media like 'Hotel Rwanda,' and how history education can help students orient themselves in life while maintaining historical integrity. His work often involves collaboration with practicing teachers to address real classroom challenges.
He is a member of two research groups: 'Work-life connection in education' and 'Teaching development research in subject didactics,' both focused on practical, classroom-based research.
As program council chair for the Subject Teacher Program, he focuses on long-term development issues in teacher education, particularly the integration of subject discipline and subject didactics from semester 1.
