Steve Smith is a Professor of Political Philosophy and Social Policy at the Faculty of Creative Industries. He leads the WISERD Well-being Research Network and has held roles including Research Consultant at the Institute of Technology Carlow and Chair of the Newport City Council Fairness Commission. His academic background includes a PhD from Warwick University (1996), an MSc/CQSW from Oxford (1988), and a BA from Newcastle upon Tyne (1983).
Research interests focus on well-being, disability rights, political philosophy, and social policy. Key projects include developing the South Wales Social Well-being Scale and analyzing tipping points in climate policy. He has published extensively, with recent works addressing ethical life between social theory and philosophy, political tipping dynamics, and the ontology of well-being.
