Steve Nesbitt is a Professor and Head of the Department of Climate, Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences (CliMAS) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He holds additional professorships at the Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies and the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies. His research focuses on radar and satellite remote sensing, tropical and mesoscale meteorology, cloud dynamics, and high-impact weather systems. Nesbitt has led over 20 field campaigns, including the NSF/NOAA/NASA RELAMPAGO and DOE CACTI campaigns in Argentina. He is also a co-author of the textbook *Radar Meteorology: A First Course* and serves as Chief Editor of the *Journal of Atmospheric and Ocean Technology* atmosphere section.

Nesbitt’s studies emphasize understanding cloud and precipitation processes in complex terrain and their impacts on weather systems.

His research group includes graduate/undergraduate students and staff, emphasizing field campaigns and data-driven analysis. He chairs national conferences and the AMS Science and Technological Activities Commission for Radar Meteorology.
Labs & Teams: Leads a research group in CliMAS focused on remote sensing and high-impact weather. Collaborates with international teams in Argentina and other regions via initiatives like RELAMPAGO-CACTI. Engages in real-time WRF model forecasts for storm analysis through his department’s web platforms.
