Dr. Steve Minchin is an Associate Professor in the School of Biosciences at the University of Birmingham and Academic Director of the Birmingham International Academy. His research focuses on transcriptional control at molecular and genomic levels, with interests in bacterial gene regulation and genomic approaches to understanding transcriptional networks. He has received the Head of Schools’ Award for Excellence in Teaching (2009) and contributed to research-led teaching in Biochemistry and related fields. Dr. Minchin holds a BSc from the University of Birmingham and a DPhil from the University of Sussex. He has co-authored a textbook, Gene Cloning: Principles and Applications, and published extensively on topics including bacterial promoter mechanisms, pollutant responses in marine organisms, and CRP regulon analysis.
His teaching spans undergraduate courses in Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, and Human Biology, covering topics like genetics, research skills, and eukaryotic gene expression. Dr. Minchin’s work bridges molecular biology and environmental genomics, with recent contributions to understanding transcriptional regulation in pathogenic bacteria and ecotoxicological impacts on aquatic species. His research has been published in journals such as Methods, Marine Environmental Research, and Nucleic Acids Research.
