Steve Lucas serves as an Adjunct Instructor at Indiana University's Paul H. O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, teaching communications and public speaking (SPEA 412) since 2022. He concurrently holds the position of emergency preparedness coordinator for the Academic Health Center at IU Health Riley Hospital.

With over a decade of U.S. Air Force experience as an airport operations manager and five years in emergency management, Lucas specializes in building organizational resilience through strategic communications and disaster preparedness. His work bridges public speaking pedagogy with practical emergency response frameworks, emphasizing community engagement and institutional readiness.
As emergency preparedness coordinator, Lucas implemented comprehensive monthly training programs covering diverse disaster scenarios for over 15,000 employees across Academic Health Center campuses. His approach integrates relationship-building with government entities and community organizations to strengthen regional response capabilities.
