Steve Kenner

Steve Kenner is a Junior Professor of Political Science and its Didactics at the Weingarten University of Education, focusing on Education for Sustainability and Transformative Education. He holds a Master of Education in Politics, Spanish, and Educational Science from the Universities of Potsdam and Valencia (Spain), followed by a legal traineeship in Berlin and senior teaching experience.

• Key Roles: Co-Director of the Leibniz Center for Inclusive Citizenship (CINC); Visiting Lecturer at the Free University Berlin (2022); Currently leads the Department of Political Science and its Didactics in Weingarten.
• Leadership: Second Federal Chairman of the German Association for Political Education (DVPB) since 2024; Member of the National Platform for Education for Sustainable Development.

Research Focus: Political participation, digital citizenship education, inclusive citizenship, and socio-ecological transformation. His work bridges empirical research with normative questions about democracy education as a cross-cutting task in schools and society.

Projects: Leads PolBNT Expert Forum (Political Education, Sustainability, Transformation) and CLIMATE-ACTIVE; Involved in DFG Network on democracy education, DAAD-funded Digital Citizenship Education study, and the Democracy Education Monitor (BMBF).

Collaborations: Works with institutions like the Free University Berlin, Leibniz University Hannover, and TU Dresden’s John-Dewey Research Center. Co-edits the journal POLIS and contributes to transfer initiatives like Teacher Education goes Digital (TEgoDi).
