Steve Jones

Dr. Steve Jones is an Assistant Professor in Media at Northumbria University, UK, specializing in horror studies, film-philosophy, and intersections between horror and pornography. He leads the university’s Horror Studies Research Group and has authored key works like The Metamodern Slasher Film (2024) and Torture Porn: Popular Horror after Saw (2013). Jones holds a PhD in Media Studies from the University of Sussex and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

His research explores extreme imagery, moral philosophy in horror, and contemporary slasher films. He has published in journals like Film-Philosophy and Porn Studies, and serves on editorial boards for Porn Studies and book series on 21st Century Horror and Hidden Horror Histories. Jones has advised on projects like the Australian Research Council’s study on pornography’s effects and the Terence Higgins Trust’s Porn Laid Bare symposium.
