Steve Hartman Keiser is an Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of English at Marquette University, part of the Klingler College of Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on linguistic variation and change in Amish communities across North America, particularly the dialectology of Pennsylvania German. He emphasizes the intersection of language use with social identity markers such as age, ethnicity, gender, and religion.
Teaching includes courses like Sociolinguistics and History of the English Language. His publications explore topics ranging from religious identity’s influence on language perception to historical patterns of linguistic change in American dialects.
