His research interrogates the nexus of popular culture and social change, specifically examining how 20th-century cultural phenomena—from hip-hop resistance to comedy traditions—fueled civil rights and human rights movements. This interdisciplinary approach bridges historical analysis with contemporary cultural studies, emphasizing marginalized voices and counter-narratives in political discourse.
Scientific Awards and Fellowships:
- SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship
- Cal Turner Fellow for Moral Leadership at Vanderbilt University
Dueck's Cal Turner Fellowship at Vanderbilt centered on moral leadership development within social justice contexts, complementing his SSHRC-funded doctoral research. While no formal advisees are documented, his teaching portfolio demonstrates mentorship through courses like HR-2650 on Human Rights in Literature, Art and Film, where he guides students in analyzing cultural artifacts as human rights instruments.
