Steve Dixon

Professor Steve Dixon serves as President of LASALLE College of the Arts since February 2012, transforming it into Asia's leading arts institution and Singapore's sole EduTrust Star recipient for educational excellence. A world-renowned academic and interdisciplinary artist, he bridges higher education leadership with professional creative practice.

His educational foundation includes a Drama degree from Manchester University (1977) and a higher Doctorate (Doctor of Letters). As a Fellow of the RSA, he maintains deep ties to arts scholarship and innovation.

Dixon pioneers research at the intersection of media technologies and performing arts, with seminal contributions to digital performance theory. His 800-page Digital Performance (MIT Press, 2007) established foundational frameworks, while Cybernetic-Existentialism (Routledge, 2020) synthesizes existential philosophy with cybernetics to analyze contemporary arts. His work spans virtual reality, AI applications, and science fiction narratives in performance contexts.

He received the Association of American Publishers Award for Excellence in Music and the Performing Arts for Digital Performance.

As a strategic leader, Dixon secured multi-million pound research contracts at Brunel University and served on the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council funding panel (2006-2010). He co-founded the Digital Performance Archive and the International Journal of Performance Arts and Digital Media, while advising national bodies including the UK Parliament and Singapore International Foundation.

He leads The Chameleons Group theatre company, creating immersive works like the VR drama Virtually No Exit, and maintains active creative practice through multimedia interpretations of texts like T.S. Eliot's The Waste Land.
