Professor Steve Conlan is a Personal Chair in Biomedical Sciences at Swansea University, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science and Swansea University Medical School. His expertise spans molecular and cell biology, with a focus on gynaecological pathologies including cancer and infertility. He leads the Reproductive Biology and Gynaecological Oncology research group and holds roles such as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the British Society of Nanomedicine and Co-Vice Chair of the European Technology Platform – Nanomedicine.
His research integrates molecular, cellular, and nanobiotechnology approaches to develop advanced therapeutics like antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), exosomes, and nanoparticle delivery systems. Collaborations include industry partners, the NHS in Wales, and international initiatives like the Celtic Advanced Life Science Innovation Network (CALIN). He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and holds adjunct roles at institutions in the USA and China.
Key areas of interest include epigenomics, nanomedicine, and translational research in precision medicine. His work bridges academia and industry, emphasizing clinical translation through platforms like the Centre for NanoHealth. Recent studies focus on ovarian cancer drug resistance, exosome-based therapies, and biomarker discovery using graphene biosensors.
