Dr Steve Brown is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Canberra's Centre for Creative & Cultural Research, actively contributing to cultural landscapes, heritage studies, and Indigenous archaeology. He is a key member of the ARC Linkage Project 'Everyday Heritage' (2022-2025) and serves as Special Adviser at GML Heritage. His international expertise includes collaborations with UNESCO World Heritage Advisory Bodies (ICOMOS, IUCN, ICCROM) and teaching in heritage capacity-building programs.
His research focuses on community values assessment, nature-culture integration, World Heritage recognition, and place-attachment theory, with fieldwork in Australia and China. Recent publications explore nuclear heritage (Daigo Fukuryu Maru) and disaster risk management frameworks.
He holds a PhD in Heritage Studies from the University of Sydney and has served as Guest Scholar at Nankai University (China). From 2015-2018, he taught at the University of Sydney's Master of Museum and Heritage Studies program, and from 2018-2021 developed heritage curricula at the University of Canberra.
