Steve Benford is the Dunford Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Beacon Smart Products at the University of Nottingham. He leads the Horizon Centre for Doctoral Training in Ubiquitous Computing and holds an EPSRC Dream Fellowship. His research focuses on mixed reality, blending digital and physical worlds through innovative interfaces for cultural experiences, performance art, and public installations. He is affiliated with the Mixed Reality Lab and has collaborated with Microsoft Research and the BBC. Benford's work emphasizes embodied interaction, tangible computing, and the ethical implications of digital technologies in cultural contexts. He has contributed to projects like the Carolan Guitar, ArtMaps, and adaptive music systems, aiming to create meaningful human-computer interactions that enrich cultural engagement.
