Steve Acquah is an Associate Research Professor in Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He also serves as the Digital Media Lab Coordinator and Director of the Global Educational Outreach for Science Engineering and Technology (GEOSET) initiative. His research focuses on carbon nanomaterials, including carbon nanotubes, graphene, and their applications in energy systems and advanced manufacturing. Acquah holds a doctorate from Sussex University (United Kingdom) under Nobel Laureate Sir Harold Kroto.
Education: PhD in Chemistry from Sussex University, UK (supervised by Sir Harold Kroto).
Research interests span carbon-based nanomaterials synthesis, nanocomposite design, and their applications in solar energy harvesting, 3D printing, and membrane technologies. Key projects include improving PVA membranes with fullerenol nanoparticles, developing cross-linked carbon nanotube papers for hydrogen sensing, and advancing dye-sensitized solar cells using Ru(II) sensitizers.
His recent work emphasizes 3D printing applications of nanomaterials and the structural optimization of TiO2-carbon nanotube composites for photovoltaics. Articles from 2016–2022 highlight advancements in nanomaterials for energy storage, catalysis, and membrane systems.
No scientific awards are listed. Grant details and advisees are not provided in the available data. Acquah's leadership in the GEOSET initiative reflects his commitment to global STEM education and outreach.
