Stephen Temple

Stephen Temple is a Professor in the Architecture and Planning department at the University of Texas at San Antonio, affiliated with the Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design. He serves as the Undergraduate Advisor of Record – Architecture, focusing on design education and pedagogy.

Stephen Temple’s research focuses on architectural education, particularly on the development of creative skills, abstraction in design, and the integration of digital and material technologies. His work explores how perceptual models and hands-on learning shape design thinking, with a strong emphasis on studio-based pedagogy and representational imagination.

His scholarly contributions span from 1998 to 2023, with recent emphasis on teaching methods for psychological skill development and charcoal drawing as a transformative tool in architectural visualization. Earlier works investigate Plato’s philosophical frameworks and biological models of learning.
