Stephen Taylor is a Professor of Cell Biology and Cancer Research UK Senior Fellow at the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Manchester. His career spans postdoctoral work at Harvard Medical School, followed by progressive fellowship and professorial roles at Manchester since 1998. Research in his laboratory focuses on the spindle checkpoint and mitotic regulators, with a particular emphasis on proteins like Bub1 and Mps1 kinase.

Research interests center on mechanisms ensuring accurate chromosome segregation during mitosis, including:
- Spindle checkpoint signaling
- Role of Cenp-F and Nudel in cell division
- Tao1 kinase function
- Exploitation of mitotic processes for anti-cancer therapies
Stephen Taylor has secured significant research funding from BBSRC, Cancer Research UK, and Wellcome Trust, and has held leadership roles including Section Head for Cellular Systems. His work has been recognized internationally through invited seminars in the UK, Europe, US, and South Korea, as well as through prestigious awards.
