Stephen Sapp is an Associate Professor of Finance at the Ivey Business School, Western University. He holds a PhD in Finance from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, an MSc in Applied Statistics from the University of Toronto, and a BSc in Mathematics and Chemistry (with Distinction) from Mount Allison University. His research focuses on international finance, particularly the impact of globalization on financial markets, investor behavior, and corporate governance across countries. He teaches courses in Finance, International Finance, and Risk Management at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Before joining Ivey, he was an adjunct lecturer at Kellogg, where he taught Investments. His professional accolades include the Bank of Montreal Professorship (2015–2020), the Tangerine Chair in Finance (2012–2015), and several best paper awards. He has also secured grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada for projects on governance, equity valuation, and cross-country firm valuation analysis.
Professor Sapp’s work examines how economic conditions influence global equity and foreign exchange markets, and how regulatory frameworks shape corporate strategies. His research bridges individual investor behavior with macro-level market dynamics, emphasizing cross-border comparisons. He remains active in editorial roles, including a term on the Journal of Financial Risk Management.
