Professor Stephen Rossiter is a Professor of Molecular Ecology and Evolution at Queen Mary University of London, affiliated with the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences. He leads research in the Centre for Biodiversity and Sustainability and the Centre for Evolutionary and Functional Genomics. His work focuses on molecular ecology, bat evolution, and Southeast Asian biodiversity, addressing questions in conservation and evolutionary biology. He has supervised PhD students including Sabhrina Aninta Said and Ismael Ng'ang'a.
Research Interests: Molecular approaches to understanding adaptation, population divergence, and speciation in mammals, particularly bats. His work integrates molecular ecology, phylogenetics, and genomics to explore evolutionary processes, including viral tolerance in bats and sensory system evolution.
Grants and Funding: Includes £511,378 from BBSRC for studying viral tolerance in bats, and NERC-funded projects on biodiversity and genomics. Recent articles highlight genomic adaptations in bats, tropical forest conservation, and viral discovery.
