معرفی
Dr. Stephen Providence is a tenured professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Coppin State University. He collaborates with national laboratories (Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, Brookhaven National Laboratory) and enterprises (IBM, Microsoft) in quantum computing and materials science research. His work spans algorithm development, quantum gate synthesis, and education initiatives.
- PhD: Computer Science, Graduate Center, CUNY (2000)
- PhM: Computer Science, Graduate Center, CUNY (1998)
- MS: Computer Science, Lehman College, CUNY (1988)
- BA: Computer Science, Lehman College, CUNY (1986)
Dr. Providence specializes in Quantum Computing for developing next-generation quantum processors, High Performance Computing for algorithm optimization, and Density Functional Theory for materials science applications. His expertise also includes Numerical Optimization and Parallel Computing for multi-dimensional signal processing. Recent collaborations with the IBM HBCU Quantum Initiative and Fermilab's Superconducting Quantum Material Science (SQMS) center highlight his focus on quantum hardware and computational modeling.
His publications span 1998–2018, reflecting expertise in structured matrix algorithms, network security simulations, and quantum gate synthesis. These works align with his leadership in the Quantum Information Science Research Group and efforts to establish a Computer Science PhD program at Coppin.
- Sigma Xi Full Member
- ACM Professional Member (Special Interest Group in Algorithms and Computation Theory)
- IEEE Member (Computer Society, Signal Processing Society)
Dr. Providence has secured over $1.9 million in NSF funding for cyber defense education, HPC infrastructure, and undergraduate research. He coordinates Coppin’s Computer Science program and co-develops MS curriculum with AI, ML, and Quantum Computing electives, aiming for ABET/CSAB accreditation and future PhD initiatives.
The Quantum Information Science Research Group and Astro-Scholars program under his leadership provide students with hands-on experience in Python, quantum computing (via IBM’s Qiskit, D-Wave, Xanadu), and research at institutions like Johns Hopkins’ STScI center.
