Stephen Politzer-Ahles is an Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Kansas, specializing in the cognitive neuroscience of language. His research uses EEG, MEG, and eye-tracking to investigate phonological representations and pragmatic meaning processing.
His experiments examine how abstract linguistic structures are instantiated in real-time processing, with foci on tone sandhi in Mandarin and scalar implicatures. Recent work explores neural signatures of syntactic processing and phonological mismatch detection across languages.
