Stephen Molldrem

Dr. Stephen Molldrem is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioethics and Health Humanities at UTMB's School of Public and Population Health, with additional affiliations at the Institute for Translational Sciences and Institute for Bioethics and Health Humanities. He holds a PhD in American Culture from University of Michigan and completed a UC President's Postdoctoral Fellowship in Anthropology at UC Irvine.
His research examines critical issues at the intersection of:
- Pathogen genomic epidemiology ethics
- Molecular HIV surveillance technologies
- Standardization of sexuality/gender data
- Public health infrastructure ethics
- Global health policy and implementation
Dr. Molldrem's publications address ethical dimensions of infectious disease management, particularly regarding HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and COVID-19. His work engages critically with molecular surveillance practices, consent frameworks in public health, and biosocial implications of pathogen genomics. Recent research has been supported by an NIH bioethics supplement.
