Stephen Marz is a Senior Lecturer and Director of the Online Master of Science in Computer Science program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Tennessee (2016), an MS in Information Technology from Kaplan University (2010), and a B.S. in Computer Science from Illinois Institute of Technology (2004). Prior to academia, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, completing combat deployments as a helicopter rescue pilot before retiring in 2012.
His research focuses on operating systems for multi-architecture systems, programming languages, graphical user interfaces, and input event models. He emphasizes hands-on pedagogy and leveraging technology to enhance learning environments. His recent publications address optimizing mobile device performance through kernel-level interventions, GUI scheduling, and event stream models.
As Online MSCS Program Director, he oversees curriculum design and student advising for the program. His office is located in Min Kao Building Room 302.
