معرفی
Stephen M Miller is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). His research focuses on molecular genetic analysis of cellular differentiation mechanisms in Volvox and related green algae, alongside metabolic engineering of algae for biofuel production and biotechnology applications.
Education:
- B.S., 1984, Case Western Reserve University
- Ph.D., 1991, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
- Postdoctoral Research, Washington University
Research Interests: Miller investigates evolutionary and genetic mechanisms underlying cellular differentiation in Volvox, with a focus on developmental biology and multicellular complexity. His work also explores metabolic pathways in algae, particularly Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, to enhance biofuel production through genetic engineering.
Grants & Contracts:
- "A System for the Large-scale Production of Membrane Proteins" (NIH SubContract, Jan 2022 – Dec 2023)
Key Research Themes: His publications span Volvox genomics, algal metabolic engineering, and molecular chaperone roles in stress responses. Recent work emphasizes biofuel-related metabolic pathways and evolutionary genetics in algae.
