Stephen C. Lougheed is a Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies at Queen’s University, holding cross-appointments in the School of Environmental Studies and the Beaty Water Research Centre. He is the Baillie Family Chair in Conservation Biology and Director of the Queen’s University Biological Station. His research integrates genomics, spatial ecology, and environmental DNA (eDNA) to study vertebrate biodiversity, human impacts on species, and conservation strategies. He leads large-scale projects funded by Genome Canada and the New Frontiers in Research Fund, focusing on genomic solutions with Indigenous communities and eDNA tools for aquatic monitoring. He has taught globally, published over 130 works, and won teaching awards.
