Stephen Knadler is a Professor and Chair of the Department of English at Spelman College, where he has been a faculty member since 1997. His research bridges critical race studies, disability studies, and transnational African American literature, with a focus on intersections of health, biopolitics, and racial capitalism.
- Education: Ph.D. and M.A. from Vanderbilt University
His recent work interrogates the biopolitical dimensions of African American cultural production, particularly in relation to slow violence, disability nationalism, and anti-blackness. He has received significant grants including the NEH and UNCF Mellon to support his research.
Notable scientific recognition includes the 2018 Tobin Siebers Prize for Disability Studies in the Humanities, highlighting his contributions to critical disability discourses. His scholarship has appeared in journals such as American Literature, J-19, and Studies of American Fiction, demonstrating a sustained engagement with evolving frameworks of race, health, and citizenship.
