Stephen Kaptoge is a Senior Statistician at the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit (CEU) within the Department of Public Health and Primary Care at the University of Cambridge. Holding a PhD in Epidemiology (2005) and MPhil in Statistical Science (2000) from Cambridge, along with a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Nairobi (1998), he specializes in cardiovascular epidemiology and health data science with particular emphasis on biomarker validation, risk prediction modeling, and global health disparities.

His research focuses on causal inference in cardiovascular disease, including proteomic and genomic epidemiology, with methodological expertise in Mendelian randomization and meta-analytic techniques. Recent work includes proteome-wide association studies, trans-ethnic genetic analyses, and development of the UK Biobank cardiovascular disease risk prediction algorithm. He has contributed extensively to understanding cardiovascular disease burden in low-income countries and ethnic disparities in disease risk.
Dr Kaptoge's publications demonstrate a consistent focus on biomarker discovery, machine learning applications in risk prediction, and global health modeling. His methodological work spans from molecular epidemiology to large-scale data synthesis across diverse populations. Current research includes advanced statistical modeling for cardiovascular risk stratification and multi-omics integration in disease pathogenesis.
