Stephen Johnson

Stephen Johnson, a 66-year-old mechanical engineering Ph.D. graduate from the University of Massachusetts Lowell's Francis College of Engineering, is an adjunct faculty member teaching Wind Energy Fundamentals. He previously spent 35 years at General Electric, retiring in 2017 as manager of the advanced manufacturing team for GE’s wind energy business, where he held 23 wind turbine patents and led global engineering teams.

His research focuses on wind energy systems, developing a techno-economic software model to optimize wind blade manufacturing automation. The tool will be freely available through the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

Johnson also runs a consulting firm, Windward Turbine Energy, supporting offshore wind farm development in New England. He emphasizes lifelong learning and aims to accelerate carbon-neutral technologies through education and industry collaboration.
