معرفی
Stephen J. Hutt is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering & Computer Science, University of Denver. His research focuses on educational data mining and machine learning applications in self-regulated learning (SRL) frameworks. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Colorado Boulder and an MS in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence from the University of York.
His work operationalizes cognitive operations in mathematical problem-solving through automated detection systems. Recent contributions include developing machine learning models to identify SMART model operations (searching, monitoring, assembling, rehearsing, translating) using student textual responses and interaction data. These detectors demonstrate robust performance across diverse populations with AUC ROC scores between 0.76–0.89.
Professional affiliations include the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and its Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction (SIGCHI). His research bridges computational methods with educational theory, emphasizing scalable SRL assessment tools.
