Stephen Ison is an Honorary Professor of Transport Policy at Leicester Castle Business School, De Montfort University, UK. An economist specializing in evidence-based transport policy, his work informs decision-making at local, national, and international levels through rigorous economic analysis.
His research spans Transport Policy, Transport Economics, Sustainability, Airport Surface Transport, Market-Based Instruments (including Car Parking Policy, Road Pricing, and Workplace Parking Levy), Regulation and Deregulation, and critical dimensions of Gender, Ageing, and Accessibility in transport systems. Recent publications analyze Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) for airport access and precinct-wide travel planning.
Professor Ison founded and led the Journal of Research in Transportation Business and Management as Editor-in-Chief (2010-2023) and co-founded the Journal of Transport and Sustainability (Co-Editor-in-Chief from 2024). He serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Transportation Planning and Technology and co-edits Emerald's Transport and Sustainability book series.
He has been a Scientific Committee Member of the World Conference on Transport Research Society (WCTR) since 2007, serving as Co-Topic Area Manager for Transport Planning and Policy since 2013 and Co-Chair of WCTR's Urban Transport Policy and Planning Special Interest Group since 2007.
