Dr. Stephen Goodman is Lecturer of Exercise and Sport Science at the University of New England's School of Science and Technology. He holds a PhD from Charles Sturt University and teaches motor control, skill acquisition, and anatomy.
Education:
- PhD (Charles Sturt University)
- Bachelor of Exercise Science (Hons)
- Bachelor of Exercise Science (Rehabilitation)
His research examines mental fatigue's impact on physical/cognitive performance in sports contexts, with secondary interests in hydration effects on decision-making. Specific focus areas: 1) Mental fatigue induction methodologies; 2) Neurophysiological markers of mental fatigue; 3) Hydration-thirst interactions with cognition; 4) Neuromuscular performance under cognitive load.
Recent publications include meta-analyses on exercise-apolipoprotein relationships and mental fatigue measurement, with consistent methodological focus on systematic reviews and neurophysiological assessment.
Scientific Award:
- Young Investigator Award (ESSA Research to Practice Conference 2021)
He has supervised research on altitude training effects (Masters) and corticospinal changes in knee conditions (Honours). Research employs systematic review/meta-analysis approaches to synthesize evidence across sports science domains.
