Stephen G. Alexander is an Associate Professor and Lead Department Advisor in the Department of Physics at Miami University. He has been affiliated with the university since 1993. His research focuses on computational astrophysics, addressing problems related to solar system formation, planetary satellite dynamics, and the orbital evolution of celestial bodies. Recently, his group has explored self-bound gravitating systems using Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) to simulate Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies, challenging traditional dark matter paradigms.
Education:
- Ph.D. Physics, Pennsylvania State University (1990)
- M.S. Aerospace Engineering, Pennsylvania State University (1979)
- B.S. Aerospace Engineering, Pennsylvania State University (1977)
Teaching responsibilities include PHY 191/192 (General Physics with Lab), PHY 111 (Astronomy and Space Physics), and PHY 311 (Contemporary Astronomy), contributing to Miami's 'Your Place in the Universe' thematic sequence.
