Stephen Ely

Stephen Ely, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of Medical Education at the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine, Nova Southeastern University. He joined the institution in 2017 as an Associate Professor and was later promoted to Professor. Dr. Ely specializes in cardiovascular physiology and cardiac surgery, with a focus on adenosine's role in myocardial protection during surgical procedures.

Dr. Ely earned his B.S. in English from Western Michigan University, followed by an M.S. and Ph.D. in Physiology from Michigan State University, and an M.D. from the University of Virginia. He is Board Certified in Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), with over 20 years of clinical experience in coronary bypass, valve surgery, and advanced heart failure management.
