Stephen Davis is the Woolsey Professor of Religious Studies at Yale University. He specializes in the history of ancient and medieval Christianity, with a focus on the eastern Mediterranean and Near East. He serves as Head of Pierson College and leads the Yale Monastic Archaeology Project (YMAP), conducting fieldwork in Egypt. His research integrates archaeology, textual studies, and social history, particularly examining Egyptian and Arabic Christian traditions, monasticism, and gender studies.

Current Projects: Directs YMAP’s excavations at the White Monastery and Monastery of John the Little. Collaborates on a monograph about monastic archaeology in Wādī al-Naṭrūn and works on cataloging Coptic manuscripts at the Monastery of the Syrians. Translates a medieval Christian Arabic commentary on Revelation and edits a trilingual liturgical manuscript.
