Stephen D. Houston is the Dupee Family Professor of Social Science, Professor of Anthropology, and Professor of History of Art and Architecture at Brown University. Previously, he served as Jesse Knight University Professor at Brigham Young University. His research focuses on Classic Maya archaeology, writing systems, and sociopolitical organization. Houston leads excavations at El Zotz and Piedras Negras, Guatemala, and has published extensively on Maya epigraphy, art, and royal courts.
